Setting Up Time and Attendance Plus on your Network

You can use multiple computers on your network to collect data using Time and Attendance Plus. All your information is then stored in one central database allowing you to run reports on all the information collected. In a typical setup one computer will run the normal Time and Attendance Plus program allowing configuration of the software and reporting. The other computers will be running the Time and Attendance Client program for data collection. The picture above shows how Time and Attendance Plus would be setup in this situation. In this example one computer is running the administration program and 3 are using using the client program. All are connected to your network server that holds your Time and Attendance Plus database. The database can either be a Microsoft Access database, or an SQL Server/MSDE database. Both require slightly different setup, but once setup are identical to use.

Setting up Time and Attendance Plus for multiple users with an MS Access Database

To setup Time and Attendance Plus for multiple computers you will need to do the following:

  1. Install the Time and Attendance Plus program on the computer you want to administer the database from.
  2. Using the Options page of Time and Attendance Plus move the database to a shared directory on your network server. You can read more about how to do this on the System Options Help Page.
  3. Using whatever network operating system you have you will need to assign full read/write/execute/delete permissions for the users you need to connect to the Time and Attendance Plus database. So, if the Time and Attendance Plus client is installed on a computer that uses the Windows log in name 'user1' then user1 will need to have full permissions on the Time and Attendance Plus database directory.
  4. Install the Time and Attendance Plus client software on the computers you wish to act as Time Clock stations. The first time you run the software on these machines you will be asked to locate your Time and Attendance Plus database.

Setting up Time and Attendance Plus for multiple users with an SQL Server/MSDE Database

The first thing you need to do is create an SQL / MSDE database using the Time and Attendance Plus Access database as a template. You can learn all about Creating the SQL Server Database on our support forum.. Once this is done you'll need to connect the software to the database. You can do this via the System Options page. You'll need to know your database server, database name, database login name, and database password to connect to the database. Please note that Time and Attendance Plus only currently supports SQL Server 2000 / MSDE 2000 using SQL Auth security.

Allowable Number of Time and Attendance Plus Clients

When you are using the trial version of Time and Attendance Plus you will be allowed up to 20 clients. When you buy Time and Attendance Plus you will be asked how many clients (if any) you would like to have. This is the number of clients you will be allowed to have in your company. Time and Attendance Plus monitors client connections to it's database and you will be notified when you have exceeded your allowable client connections. At all times you will be restricted to just one administration connection to the database.

Do I Have to Run the Client Program to Log my Payroll Data?

No. You can continue to run Time and Attendance Plus in single user mode. In this mode all administration, data collection and reporting are carried out from the same computer.
